Music: Honey Cocaine | F* Yo Feelings Vol. 1
Okay.. so let’s start this review off by saying this is one of those cases. Honey Cocaine has decisively chosen a path that will never be mainstream, or at least we hope. The new mix-tape, subtly titled “Fuck Yo Feelings Vol. 1”, has found an interesting place on the map.
The Toronto based, Cambodian & Indian rapper has worked with Tyga to release 15 tracks that are full of profanity, maybe a little lyrically questionable… but somehow legitimate. In fact, we completely enjoyed it and didn’t even think that could happen. Cocaine’s delivery is razor sharp and her bad role model image is like icing on the cake.
As her free mix-tape circulates swiftly with thousands of downloads daily, she’s being claimed as “the female Jeremy Lin of rap”. We like that better than the comparisons to Nicki Minaj. In late March, Honey Cocaine was shot in Omaha, NE after a Tyga performance. She was back on stage the next evening. The arm graze has now perhaps earned her a little bit of street cred. We’re tuned in for more…and looking forward to what this turns into.
