The Avant/Garde Diaries held Transmission LA: AV CLUB, curated by Mike D, from April 20th through May 6th at The Geffen Contemporary in D.T.L.A.  Seventeen outstanding artists showed works from several disciplines including contemporary art, design, film, multimedia, music, coffee and food.  The roster included Peter Coffin, Jim Drain, Will Fowler, Benjamin Jones, Mike Mills, Takeshi Murata, and Tom Sachs.

Visitors were able to wander through various sections experiencing layer upon layer of the exhibit.  Experiences ranged from stunning traditional presentation to neon and kaleidoscopic realities, and also interactive tunnels leading to whacked out digital toon surrealism.

A series of three prints depicting the mechanical beauty of hip-hop were made available to Geffen Contemporary patrons hot off the screens at no cost.  Santigold performed on opening night and also J-Rocc, Jonti, Dam-Funk along with Peanut Butter Wolf of Stones Throw Records.  Also in the mix were, Egyptian Lover and Jeremy Sole, Major Lazer and Diplo and many more.

Just days before the close of the exhibit, the saddening loss of Mike D’s longtime friend and fellow Beastie Boy Adam Yauch sent reverberating waves through the hip hop community.  With good timing and great tracks, PB Wolf closed the festival with a video set in honor of the Beastie Boys and the legendary MCA.
